“Waiting On” Wednesday: The Coldest Girl In Coldtown

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature that is hosted by Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. This week my pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black

Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

Publication Date: September 3, 2013

Pages: 432

Synopsis:

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

This month I have read two of Holly Black’s books for the first time, and absolutely loved them. Her writing style and the worlds she creates are just amazing. So, when I heard about this title, I got super excited. Are you guys excited for this book as well, and what other upcoming releases are you looking forward to?

“Waiting On” Wednesday: Curtsies & Conspiracies

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by breakingthespine.blogspot.com, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

Cursies & Conspiracies

By Gail Carriger

Publication Date: Nover 5, 2013

Synopsis:

Sophronia’s first year at Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality has certainly been rousing! For one thing, finishing school is training her to be a spy (won’t Mumsy be surprised?). Furthermore, Sophronia got mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and had a cheese pie thrown at her in a most horrid display of poor manners.

Now, as she sneaks around the dirigible school, eavesdropping on the teachers’ quarters and making clandestine climbs to the ship’s boiler room, she learns that there may be more to a school trip to London than is apparent at first. A conspiracy is afoot–one with dire implications for both supernaturals and humans. Sophronia must rely on her training to discover who is behind the dangerous plot-and survive the London Season with a full dance card.

In this sequel to bestselling author Gail Carriger’s YA debut Etiquette & Espionage, class is back in session with more petticoats and poison, tea trays and treason. Gail’s distinctive voice, signature humor, and lush steampunk setting are sure to be the height of fashion this season.
